This special decanter, plated with 24-carat gold instead of the normal copper glaze was sold for only four days, as part of the June 19-22, 1980 celebration of Michter's being listed as a National Historic Landmark. Proceeds from the sale (at $500 apiece) went to the Schaeffer Farm Museum in Schaefferstown. The original plan was for a limited edition of 2,400, but only 2,000 were actually produced, and only 893 were sold during the dedication festival. At 6:30 pm on June 22 the remaining decanters -- with contents! -- were publicly destroyed in the Michter's parking lot in order to ensure the value of those which had been purchased.
